A Woodland Retreat with Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell
Join us for a weekend at a serene retreat center just 45 minutes from Portland, Oregon, nestled on 20 acres of meadow and old-growth forest. Together, we’ll discuss Hamnet, where Maggie O’Farrell reimagines Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes, as far more than a figure in the margins. She is a wife and mother, a healer and herbalist, and a woman deeply attuned to both the natural and spirit worlds.
The novel traces her experience of love, loss, motherhood, and renewal, while also exploring art and creation as a form of healing. We’ll bring these themes to life through conversation, herbal craft, and a restorative sound bath activity.
There will also be plenty of space to rest, read, and take in the beauty of the land, with access to outdoor baths, a sauna, cold plunge, and nearby hiking trails.
A Glimpse of the Weekend
Friday
Arrival, grounding, and opening circle. We’ll share a meal and begin our first book discussion together.
Saturday
Morning movement, nourishing meals, and layered discussions balanced with spacious free time to enjoy the property’s hiking trails and bathhouse. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for an herbalism workshop, followed by dinner and an evening sound bath.
Sunday
Closing conversations and guided writing to integrate the weekend, followed by a final brunch and farewell circle.
