A Weekend with Toni Morrison: Beloved & Sula
Join us for a weekend at Society Hotel in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, about an hour from Portland, OR. Together, we’ll enter the layered, lyrical worlds of Beloved and Sula, gathering for reflection and connection around one of the most powerful literary voices of our time.
We’ll explore Toni Morrison’s work, paying attention to her poetic prose and the way she grounds her stories in historical realities while weaving the everyday with the otherworldly. Through conversation, we’ll engage themes of race, memory, identity, and belonging.
We’ll also connect through gentle movement and writing practices, with plenty of time to read, rest, and enjoy the property’s amenities, including an indoor saltwater soaking pool, outdoor hot pool, cold plunge, and cedar sauna.
A Glimpse of the Weekend
Friday
Arrival, grounding, and opening circle. We’ll share a meal and begin our first book discussion together.
Saturday
Morning movement, nourishing meals, and layered discussions balanced with spacious free time to enjoy the property’s spa and bathhouse featuring an indoor saltwater soaking pool, an outdoor hot pool, a cold plunge pool and a cedar sauna. In the afternoon, we’ll gather for craft activity, followed by dinner and an evening sound meditation.
Sunday
Closing conversations and guided writing exercises to integrate the weekend, followed by a final brunch and farewell circle.

Private rooms located in the “Schoolhouse” hotel
These include a King or Queen sized beds as well as a sink and vanity. Several individual bathrooms are shared between the standard rooms, accessible through the hallway, mere footsteps from the rooms.

Shared Cabins
These include two bedrooms, each with a queen bed as well as a bathroom, kitchenette, indoor lounge area, and outdoor seating area with table & hammock.
